If you haven’t picked up on it by now, we’re all about night paddle boarding over here at iRocker. When you take the proper precautions and hit the water with a great group of blokes, you’ll see why there’s nothing better than a good SUP down under during the full moon.
The absolute best time to SUP at night is when a full moon lights up the sky. As long as you can stay warm, of course.
Unless you’re into astrology, you probably don’t even know when the next full moon is along the Gold Coast. Lucky for you, we’ve done the research so you don’t have to. Here’s your go-to guide on the upcoming 2019 full moons and how to best take advantage of them with your SUP.
Upcoming Full Moons in Australia
July 17, August 15, and September 14 are the dates to make sure you have your togs ready. Be sure to bundle up before you head out. Full moons make their appearance anytime between late evening to early morning.
Plenty of mystery and folklore surround full moons and their meaning. From people turning into werewolves (some people really believe this) to perfectly timing when to conceive a child. What do we believe? We don’t know about all of that, but we do know a full moon creates the perfect vibe for a night of SUPing.
Grab Some Mates and Glow Sticks
Glow sticks instantly make every full moon SUP session more fun, but they also make a great safety accessory. It’s always smart to bring torches when you hit the water at night, even if the full moon perfectly lights the water.
Glow sticks are just a simple way to make any party way more fun.
Take it one step further with glow-in-the-dark wet suits and board shorts, bright winter mittens, neon board leashes and a full moon Spotify playlist. You might also grab yourself a head lamp for added safety.
A full moon can be creepy or cool, and colorful accessories are the perfect way to stay warm and keep the scary vibes at bay.
Meditate on Your SUP
Whether you’re a full-blown yogee or simply need some quiet time, your SUP and a calm area of water can be the perfect place to get centered. iRocker boards are built with comfortable crocodile-textured traction pads, which makes them the perfect vehicle for some peaceful meditation.
While meditation is all about you, make sure you never SUP alone at night. Pick a friend who can embrace the silence of a spiritual full moon. We all love our chatty mates, but this may not be the event for them.
Bring Your Pup Out for a Full Moon SUP Session
Hang out on the coast with your pooch and watch the moon rise as you get your gear ready. Spend a little time with your best mate before you head into the water. Fingers crossed your dog doesn’t turn into a werewolf out on the water. (It’s the full moon, after all.)
Invite your two-legged and four-legged friends for this unique full moon party. Have a couple drinks, enjoy the puppy playdate, then end the event with a calming group paddle sesh. Just make sure you stay warm with neoprene booties, thermal long underwear and a well-fitted wetsuit.
Full Moon Paddle Board Date Night
Major props will come your way if you can execute a well-planned, out-of-the-ordinary night on the water. The full moon will make your night way more special than a simple dinner and a movie. Your sheila will love your ingenuity and the special night of snuggling under the stars.
Fill your backpack with some red wine or hot chocolate for an over-the-top full moon SUP date. The iRocker All-Around Board is hands-down the best board for a duo. The last thing you want to worry about while spending time together is tipping into the freezing water.
Soak It All In
Our favorite way to shake up the traditional paddle boarding routine is to hit the water once the sun goes down. Head out to your local waterway on July 16, August 15 and September 14 for breathtaking SUP experiences you just won’t believe.
We can pretty much guarantee you don’t believe all the rumors surrounding a full moon. There’s simply no denying that full moons change the way the world feels, if only for a one night every month.
Whether you believe the legends or not, we’d hate for you to miss a rare opportunity to SUP under the brightest night sky.
